British Columbia: CleanBC Go Electric Guide 2025

British Columbia has been a pioneer in EV incentives in Canada. Here's the current status of programs and what's still available.

Current Program Status (July 2025)

⚠️ Main Program Suspended

The CleanBC Go Electric Passenger Vehicle Rebate program for passenger vehicles reached its funding limit in May 2025 and is no longer accepting new applications.

Before suspension, the program offered:

  • Up to $4,000 for EVs (income-based)
  • Up to $2,000 for PHEVs
  • MSRP limit: $55,000
  • Programs Still Active

    #### 1. Go Electric Specialty Use Vehicle Rebates

    This program remains active for:

  • Electric motorcycles: up to $2,000
  • Electric cargo bikes: up to $1,700
  • Electric scooters: up to $750
  • Utility vehicles: up to $50,000
  • #### 2. Go Electric Charging Infrastructure

    For charging station installation:

  • Residential: up to $350
  • Commercial: up to $4,000 per station
  • #### 3. Go Electric Fleets

    For businesses and organizations:

  • Fleet vehicle rebates
  • Charging infrastructure support
  • Free consultation
  • Alternatives for Buyers in 2025

    1. SCRAP-IT Program

If you have an old gas vehicle:

  • Up to $6,000 to scrap your old vehicle and buy an EV
  • Vehicle must have been registered in your name for at least 6 months
  • scrapit.ca
  • 2. Municipal Incentives

    Some municipalities offer additional incentives:

  • Victoria: Parking permit rebates
  • Vancouver: Free charging in some parking lots
  • 3. Manufacturer Incentives

    Several manufacturers offer direct rebates:

  • Hyundai/Kia: 0% financing offers
  • GM: Rebates on Chevrolet Bolt/Equinox EV
  • Ford: Ford Options program for EVs
  • BC's Charging Network

British Columbia has one of the best charging networks in Canada:

    BC Hydro EV Network

  • Over 100 fast chargers along major highways
  • Transparent pricing: $0.27/minute (DC fast)
  • BC Hydro app for location and payment
  • Other Networks

    NetworkStations in BCType
    FLO500+L2 and DC
    Petro-Canada50+DC fast
    ChargePoint400+L2
    Tesla Supercharger60+DC fast

    Electricity Costs in BC

    BC has competitive electricity rates:

  • Residential Step 1: 10.31¢/kWh (first 1,350 kWh)
  • Residential Step 2: 15.46¢/kWh (beyond)
  • Average cost per 100 km: ~$4

    New Funding Cycle Expected

The BC government has committed to maintaining EV incentives. A new funding cycle is expected, likely in fall 2025.

    ZEV Targets

    BC has ambitious targets:

  • 2026: 26% of new vehicle sales
  • 2030: 90% of sales
  • 2035: 100% of sales
  • To achieve these targets, incentives will be necessary.

    Tips for BC Buyers

  • 1. Sign up for alerts at goelectricbc.gov.bc.ca to be notified when the program resumes
  • 2. Consider the SCRAP-IT program if you have an old vehicle
  • 3. Take advantage of manufacturer offers — several offer direct rebates
  • 4. Install your charging station now — the $350 rebate is still available
  • 5. Calculate your savings — even without rebates, fuel savings make EVs attractive
  • Example: Total Cost Without Rebates

    2025 Hyundai Kona Electric

    ItemAmount
    MSRP$44,999
    GST (5%)$2,250
    PST (7%)$0 (exempt!)
    Total$47,249

Good news: EVs are exempt from the 7% provincial PST in BC! That's over $3,000 in savings on a $45,000 vehicle.
